On 7 November, the Association of Professional Social Compliance Auditors (APSCA), held its inaugural general meeting and election of its Executive Board. Darrell Doren, FTA Senior Director Sustainability, currently serving on APSCA’s Stakeholder Board, represented the association at the meeting.
The Board elected Avedis Seferian from Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP) as Chair as well as Randy Rankin, an independent consultant, and Wesley Wilson from WalMart as Stakeholder Board Representatives. Additional individuals were also elected as member representatives. A complete overview of the Board can be found here.
In tandem, APSCA hosted over 100 participants in New York including three working groups and face-to-face meetings. The working groups were organised to consult their extended members as progress continues on audit definition, auditor competencies and audit firm requirement.
Avedis Seferian, Chair of the APSCA Executive Board commented, “APSCA is officially up and running to fulfil its mission of enhancing the professionalism and credibility of the individuals and organisations performing independent social compliance audits. This marks a real turning point for this industry and to begin the journey of setting, maintaining, and raising standards for professionals engaged in providing the very challenging and very important service of social audits.”
As APSCA is regarded as a cornerstone in audit quality, the organisation will play a pivotal role in working towards a united, quality training standard for auditing companies. FTA is eagerly awaiting these results.
