Reflecting on 10 Years of Sustainability Efforts in Switzerland

24-04-2017

In late March, 50 FTA Swiss members together with FTA Director General, Christian Ewert; Membership and Business Development Manager, Sarah Dekkiche; and former member representatives from Intersport, Migros, Coop and Prime Agri, who played a major role in establishing the group, celebrated the 10th anniversary of the National Contact Group (NCG) Switzerland.

Christian Ewert highlighted the progress and evolution of FTA’s global network in the past decade and provided insights on its future developments, aimed to strengthen this structure and adapt it to the Vision 2030, the long-term strategy of the organisation.

10 years of collaboration and open dialogue

The Swiss was the first NCG established with the aim to facilitate the discussion at national level and in local language. Currently supporting over 90 FTA members, the NCG represents 10 years of collaboration among Swiss retailers, importers and brands; of open dialogue and mutual assistance to address common challenges of trade and sustainability in their supply chains as well as an active exchange with stakeholders and the public entities.

These conversations in local language and face-to-face support from the local perspective have been invaluable for FTA Swiss members”, commented Sibyl Anwander, Head of Innovation and Economy at the Federal Office for the Environment (BAFU) and former Chair of the Swiss NCG. She is today in her new function strongly supporting an implementation for a national procurement law that shall include sustainability criteria.

Local support tailored to needs

The afternoon workshops were dedicated to tackle specific challenges from the daily work of FTA members, along with implementation of FTA’s sustainability services. The BSCI Commitment Formula, membership engagement, along with the application of FTA tools were discussed with participants offering concrete solutions, as well as specific inputs for FTA to further enhance and improve service quality for members.

Following a successful first decade, the NCG Switzerland is ready for another 10 years of close collaboration to support committed companies in their efforts to improve sustainability in their supply chains.
